Opening Speech for the Opening Ceremony of Karma Osal Ling Ipoh
Date: 28 March 2015
Venerable Rinpoches chairman of buddhist association of Perak state, distinguished guests, fellow sangha members, ladies and gentlemen, please allow me to extend my sincerest thanks to Karma Osaling to preside over the opening ceremony of this new Karma Kagyud Buddhist centre in Ipoh.
About 3 years ago, I met a young man named Norsang at Bukit Martajam at Lama Khedup Rinpoche’s centre in Malaysia. During our conversation, I learnt that he is from Ipoh. Casually yet seriously, I asked him if he is able to start a centre here in Ipoh? I shared with him that I would provide full support to have a significant centre here. He took on this daunting task without hesitation. From then on, he conceptualized the plans and reign in support from his family and close friends. Over a period of time, he eventually formed a small yet strong team to work tirelessly over this meaningful project. Today, you bear witness to this beautiful centre in Ipoh.
Why is Ipoh a significant place to develop a Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre? During the 1980s, HH the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa was invited to Ipoh. HH is omniscient and a great visionary. He agreed to visit Malaysia for the very first time. His very first dharma activity in Malaysia begun in Ipoh. From then on, Karma Kagyud teachings flourished in different parts of Malaysia. Til this day, our glorious lineage continues to propagate.
I believe that with a Karma Kagyud centre in Ipoh, it can be auspicious and play a significant role in reminding us of how Karma Kagud took roots and flourish in Malaysia. This morning, we visited the cave where the 16th Karmapa had visited and where he gave valuable teachings and even performed the precious Black Crown ceremony to all the fortunate people. I could imagine the historical event in the cave. HH must have made strong aspirations for this nation as well.
I am very pleased with Norsang and the team’s efforts. I am very inspired and overjoyed at the establishment of a centre right here. Standing in this place, I wish to share with you a message sent to me by HH the 17th Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje:
“Dear Rinpoche, I hope that the opening of the centre went well. I am happy that our Dharma accesses are growing for people’s benefit. Take care and see you soon. Long Life.”
This simple message showing the care and concern of HH warmed my heart. Even though HH is not with us physically, He is with us spiritually.
Today, I see many Karma Kagyud representatives from many places gather here with all their kindest wishes and hopes. This love and care from our Karma Kagyud fellow vajra brothers and sisters showering upon Karma Osaling give great encouragement. This unifies us and gives strength to all for our dharma practice and development. Together, we will grow our compassionate hearts and stainless wisdom to benefit others and oneself.
My very best wishes to Karma Osaling and to all its members. Special thanks to Norsang the chairman of Karma Osal Ling Centre, all his strong team members and supporter for your contribution and support to become this centre reality.
With this new centre, I sincerely believe that it would contribute to a better Ipoh and benefit all who come. It will be able to provide assistance to all its members and be a spiritual development ground for all.
With these few words, may I once again thank you and welcome you to Karma Osaling, Ipoh.
